Annotated Bibliography
Source #1:
This source is very
important because it has many facts about children in poverty and their
education. The journal goes into detail
more about children in poverty and their education and I plan on using many of
the statistics that this source has. One thing I really like about this journal
is that it is not just the USA but it is global. I think being talking about
children all around the world is very important because this issue not only
affects the US but many other countries as well. I tend on going into detail
about that specific point as well. The journal was published recently so this
source is up to date on statistics about the amount of children in poverty.

Bratter, Jennifer. "Multiracial Children
and Poverty:Evidence from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study of
Kindergartners." National
Council on Family Relations. 62. 1:175-189. Web. Febuary. 2013
This source is very important to my paper
because it focuses on all different races and types of children and their
parents. Some people tend to think there is one specific type of child that has
a higher chance of going into poverty, such as African Americans, Whites, low
class, etc., but this is not the case. Poverty can happen to any child! The
article goes into detail about the differences in poverty based on the child’s
race and how they can be treated differently because of their skin color. I
plan on focusing on this as well because this affects the child’s educational
environment. Teachers, students, and even parents can discriminate against a
child because of their social class and also their skin color which can affect
that child’s education.

As stated in source two teachers have the tendency
of treating children in poverty different than other children. This source goes
into detail about poverty in the school environment and gives an example of a 6
year old child that has a problem with discrimination because of being from a
family in poverty. I plan on briefly describing this young boy’s story because
many people will be affected by this. There is a section in this article that
really got my attention and that is “Poverty’s affect on children in school.” I
plan on using this part of the article a lot because it gives a lot of good
information and also credible information. For example, the No child left
behind act I think is very important and I will be using this a lot in my
paper.

"The State of America's Children® 2014
Report." The State of America's Children® 2014 Report. N.p., n.d. Web. 30

This source goes
along with my third source. As stated above there is an act that prohibits
schools from discriminating children in poverty which is the No child left
behind act. This source is actually one of my favorites because it goes into
detail about this act and also has many others as well. This source touches on every aspect of
children in poverty such as family, school, different races, global, etc. I
plan on using this source a lot in my article because this was published in
2014 so this source is up to date and it also has lots of information. One
piece of information I plan on using is the amount of children in poverty
separated into different groups which will support my second source as well.

Ingraham,
Christopher. "Child Poverty in the U.S. Is among the Worst in the
Developed World." Washington Post. The Washington Post, n.d. Web. 30 Mar.
2015.
The importance of this
source is to show all the countries and how many children in poverty they have.
This also breaks down the US by state and shows what state has the most child
poverty. The part that has really stuck with me is in the United States it says
1 in 3 children live in poverty. I plan on using this source to go along with
and support all of my other sources because this one ties all of my sources
together.
